Schooling here at SIPC-WVCST Miagao Campus was one of my greatest achievement. Why? First, it is because during my admission, interview and entrance exam it was done only by me without a companion. Second, I have face my professors and instructors without fear. Third, I've got a lot of friends even though in my first month, I really can't understand the language they are using, they used here Kinaray-a while I am used to Hiligaynon because I'm from Capiz. Now, I am third year college taking up Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Biological Science. Actually it is not my choice take up this course it was my mother who told me to do so because I believe in the saying that "mothers knows best" i decided to follow her suggestion. And now I don't feel any regrets because I already know to myself that i wanted this, to be a teacher/educator.

21st Century Learning Opportunities

21st century is the years we could considered as modern because technology and people are collaborating or helping hand in solving problems here in our country. technology is one of best tool now in learning and teachers only act as a facilitator. All information needed by the students can be found in the different sites. Traditional way of teaching which using of manila papers, writing on the board, copying in the notebook and searching on the book are seldom to seen because there is another way of teaching and this called a modern way of teaching were computers, laptops, ipods, cellphones with
different applications are now the tools brings by the students which more convenient and fast in showing, receiving and giving an information.

Things are changing around us very dramatically, very quickly. The world is becoming more interconnected, the environment is becoming less stable, and technology is continuously altering our relationship to information. Changing global conditions demand that we rethink what, but even more important, how and where we learn. We need education for the 21st century. But what do we mean by 21st century education? The following are what we believe to be their characteristics:
Students learn through meaningful projects.
When students design, plan, carry out, and publicly exhibit a project of genuine value (to themselves, to the community, or to a client), it has a trans formative effect on their perception of themselves, their relationship to learning, and their sense of their place in the world around them. It is also the best way to develop the diverse portfolio of skills that that are increasingly in demand from employers.
School is a ‘base camp’ for inquiry.
Now that many mobile phones can access more information than is held in any library, the idea of school as the place you go to acquire knowledge is an anachronism. However, schools still have an important role to play as the ‘base camp’ for inquiries that will take students into their communities, and online.
Educators regard themselves as learners as well as teachers
An interest in learning is the key characteristic that teachers share with their students, and teachers need to be able to conduct action research and be aware of developments in their field, in order to develop their practice (and share it with their colleagues).
Learners collaborate in their learning, rather than ‘consuming’ it
Students are experts in their own learning – they know how they learn best, and what they are most interested in, and schools stand to benefit from working with them rather than performing for them. In other words, rather than trying to put on a fancier show for their students, teachers should let them backstage.
Education takes advantage of digital technologies and helps students become both digitally literate and digitally adept
Attentive readers may be noticing that there is nothing ‘new’ about the preceding characteristics of 21st century education. These ideas are at least 100 years old - John Dewey is probably their most famous advocate, though they go back much further. However, digital technology has made this vision more attainable, for more people, than ever before. It has also vastly increased the number of education providers that a learner can choose from. Schools no longer have a monopoly on ‘academic’ learning, and if they do not adapt, the world may simply leave them behind.

Learning or education is very essential to us though this we can gain respect, honor and good impression from the society. Education we can gain a good living . Let us face the reality that if are educated person we can easily get a job and provide the needs of our family. Without education all the technologies, gadgets, materials making our lives comfortable are not invented. in my opinion we cannot totally live without education.

Learning will help us to be a better person and makes us successful someday. Make learning as a motivation to get what you dream to be.

Role of Social Media in Education

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Gmails and Google are the best example of social media. Aside from cellphones, social medias are now the newest way of sending message, communicating your friends and love ones, storing information, sharing ideas, disseminating news and most of all posting pictures together with the caption on it describing or sharing the happenings in the life of an individual. The real question is thus social media helpful or not when it comes to education. Well, if I am to be ask by this question, I would really say "Yes" because as a student right now social media is very big help to me. Nowadays that modern technology is invading the whole wide world. Social media is the very best tool to educate an individual. All question that bothering to us in just one click answers are all appeared in the monitor. In this generation, social media are been using as a classroom because teachers and students interaction are through social media. Maybe they do not meet personally but the goal and eagerness of a teacher to educate somebody is still remain.

Social media was very important to us but what we never know is it has its advantages and disadvantages depending on how we used it. Social media nowadays the source or where some crimes happened on our country.  Liers and those person taking advantage to others are just some examples of  person using social media on a wrong way that makes social media not in good terms. As we used social media we should always remember that it has a positive (advantage) and negative (disadvantages) to be consider. Here are some advantages and disadvantages of social media mentioned by M :

ADVANTAGES:

1. Bringing people togetherWe all know that social media facilitates open communication and enhancing information discovery and delivery. Everyone can find new people, meet their friends and communicate to their love ones all over the world. When promoting campaigns and ideas, it allows people from the different geographical location to express and share their views and meet in a single point as well as promoting global products.

2. Breadth of knowledgePeople can experience the broadness of knowledge and connectedness through social media use. It is easier for them to know or find out different information or something about almost anything in the world through a connected media. For students, who are also engaged to this activities, it can give them the benefit of being exposed to technology and can be connected to a broader base of opinions and world views through global connections. Social media provides tools for helping students to work together to create their own meaning in work environments, social contexts and especially academic subjects.

3. Technological literacyOne cannot be engaged in deep and meaningful uses of technology without developing some sorts of simple skills. All social media relies on advanced information and communication technologies that work to build and support technological literacy for people. This can help learners to connect in an economy and become a valuable contributor.

4. Opportunity to widen businessIt could always be a fun and creative method of doing your business because it not just allows employees to discuss and share ideas, ask questions, post news and share links but it minimize the use of advertising to businesses and also improves business reputation. It also creates a more competent and reliable business.

5. Attracts attentionAside from building loyalty and long-term relations to your audience, social media can attract attention to your site, product or services.

DISADVANTAGES:

1. Understanding on how it worksYou need to understand how social media works, when and how to use it and which channels to focus on depending on your end goal of using social media in order to get its full effects.2. Commits illegal crime

Social media may open possibility for hackers to commit illegal crime such as fraud, spam and virus attacks. People falling prey to online scam may also increase, resulting in data or identity theft.

3. Viral social disadvantageThis may damage one’s reputation. The wrong online brand strategy could put you on this.

4. Negative effects on worker productivityResults in lost productivity and employees may use social media to attack the company’s reputation. Instead of working in their time of work, they can waste such valuable time using social media channels such as Twitter and Facebook. This may result in negative comments from employees about the company or potential legal consequences if employees use these sites to view objectionable, illicit or offensive material.

5. DistractionMost people who suffer from this are students. Instead of doing their homeworks they tend to fail their academic endeavors because of using social media in the wrong way.
